Word of Life Church is more than a brick and mortar building - it's a testament of God's faithfulness. More than 40 years ago, a small group of believers began gathering in a meeting room at the former Holiday Inn and Convention Center. Pastors David and Gaynell Smith led the assembly.
One day, while sitting in front of the hotel in the car, they asked the Lord what to name the group. He directed them to Philippians 2:16: "Holding out to them the word of life..." With this verse, God birthed Word of Life Assembly of God, and a new journey began.
Within one year from the first meeting, the flourishing congregation grew to one-hundred people. The numbers continued to increase, and in 1984 the church purchased its first building. One year later, the attendance had again doubled, and the building was too small.
The Lord then led the pastors to a vacant piece of land - the property where the church currently sits. With prayer and direction from above, the church embarked on a building plan. The original church building (now dedicated to the youth and children's ministries, was completed in 1986. Ever faithful, the Lord again multiplied the congregation, resulting in the need for our current sanctuary.
While we do not know what the future holds, we do know we can trust the Lord's faithful hand will remain upon the Word of Life Church.
